Whether you’ve had hormonal skin acne, noticed more fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes and cheeks, or experienced skin rashes and bouts of dryness (which is common when you’re exposed to artificial heating, aircon and sun exposure) we know you’re after clear and smooth skin that looks great and allows you to feel confident with - or without make-up. Don’t we all!
The good news is that you can improve your overall skin tone and texture naturally without relying on invasive aesthetic treatments or spending thousands on expensive skincare products.
Easy ways to a clear and smooth skin
Here are 10 expert-approved ways to get your glow back and keep your skin looking fresh and clear.
1 Cleanse your skin daily
Use a good-quality gentle, natural cleanser morning and night to rid the skin of daily dirt and grime. No need to use harsh soaps. You want to look for cleaners with antibacterial ingredients like tea tree oil and salicylic acid – to naturally detoxify and shed dead skin cells without stripping the skin of its natural oil barrier.
2 Use a soothing toning mist
After cleansing your skin, pat dry and spray a fine toning mist over your face. We love the soothing properties of a toning mist, especially those that contain lavender and other essential oils as well as rose water. Just make sure to look for an alcohol-free toning mist that helps to reduce pore size, while combatting dryness and inflammation.
3 Moisturize twice a day
A good moisturizer helps to keep your skin balanced, while preventing dryness and excess oiliness. It also protects your skin against the sun’s harmful UV rays especially if it includes an SPF. If you have problem-prone skin, look for one that types and contains antibacterial ingredients to help clear the skin from blemishes and pimples.
4 Replenish lost collagen
Although collagen makes up over 80% of our skin, it starts to decline as we age. In fact, we start to lose around 1-2% of our collagen stores in our 20s and by the time we hit our 50s, we lose up to a third of it. This is largely due to certain lifestyle and environmental factors like stress, ultraviolet rays, smoking, a high sugar diet and pollution. This isn’t great news for our skin as collagen is responsible for making skin cells strong and resilient. Along with elastin, collagen helps to keep our skin firm, supple and flexible.
We have a simple (and delicious) solution to get your collagen levels back up to where they should be. Our beauty infused COLLAGEN is your all-in-one daily hair, skin and beauty nourishing drink mix. It’s packed with antioxidants, superfoods, pure hydrolyzed collagen and beauty-loving nutrients to encourage stronger, healthier hair growth while promoting youthful, vibrant and hydrated skin.
5 Get plenty of sleep
We know you’ve heard this before, but there’s a reason why it’s called beauty sleep. Getting enough rest is critical for your overall wellbeing – but especially your skin. Seven hours of shut-eye per night is generally adequate. A lack of sleep over time, like getting 4-5 hours a night for a few months will result in problems that are hard to cure such as loose, saggy skin under the eyes, puffiness and dark circles, not to mention dull, tired-looking skin.
6 Stick to a clean, healthy diet
What you put in your mouth has a direct impact on your overall complexion. Make sure to include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet, as well as healthy fats you’ll find in seeds, nuts, avocados, olives and oily fish like sardines or salmon.
Limit processed foods high in salt and sugar, gluten – found in most baked goods and breads, alcohol and red meat if you can as these are all inflammatory. Foods that are easily digested such as bananas, sweet potato, eggs, chicken and cooked starchy foods such as brown rice and oats will nourish your body and promote fresh, new cell growth. Don’t forget to stay hydrated with plenty of clean, fresh drinking water too.
7 Use a weekly exfoliating scrub
This is great for sloughing away dead skin cells and boosting your blood circulation. When using a body scrub, start at your feet and work towards your heart, this helps to eliminate toxins. Consider using a gentle facial scrub on your face and neck with scientifically approved ingredients such as alpha hydroxy acids as harsh products can cause redness, inflammation, flaking and/or peeling.
8 Steam your face
Once a month, use a home steam treatment to gently open the pores on your face and gently draw out impurities from your skin. Simply add boiling water to a basin or bowl along with two drops of tea tree oil. Then cover your head and neck area in a towel and lean over the bowl just enough so that the steam reaches your skin. Take care not to go too close and make sure the bowl is on a level, sturdy surface. After a few minutes of steaming, finish off with a tepid face wash.
9 Head outdoors!
Not only is exercise outdoors brilliant for boosting your metabolism and blood circulation, but just a few minutes outside in the sunlight will give you a healthy dose of vitamin D that’s vital for healthy, glowing skin. Get out into the fresh air and take a walk, swim in the sea, ride a bike, and have fun!
10 Nourish your skin from the inside
How you treat your skin on the inside is just as important as the skincare products you use on the outside. If you’re noticing that your skin is looking tired, dull and a bit “worse for wear” despite following a healthy diet and steering clear of the sun, consider supplementing with a good-quality anti-aging supplement like our ageless skin VITAMINS.
