Is your skincare routine bordering on chaotic? Are “miracle” anti-aging products spilling from your bathroom cabinet? When it comes to caring for your skin, we’re big believers in the idea of less is more. Nowadays, skincare experts agree that it’s all about choosing the right skincare products (and supplements) in the right combinations to give your skin what it needs to thrive, not just survive.
Follow these 7 steps to help you embrace a more targeted beauty wellness regime for you.
Your daily skincare regime
To start...
1 Cleanse
You might be tempted to skip a daily face wash, but a good cleanse will help your skin of any age look fresher, brighter and better able to absorb any creams or serums you apply. Money spent on a cream or serum is wasted if you apply it over dull skin that hasn’t been cleansed thoroughly.
However, harsh soapy cleansers strip skin of critical moisture, upsetting the lipid balance that naturally protects your skin from dust, pollution and UV rays. Choose gentle soap-free, non-foaming cleansers such as a milk, gel or balm.
Suffer from acne-prone skin? Consider double cleansing. This is particularly important at night if you suffer from blackheads. Draw out dirt, pollution and stale make-up after a long day by cleansing with an oil or a balm, then use a gel cleanser over the top.
TOP TIP: Cleanse at your basin, not in the shower! If you’re trying to save time, make sure the shower water’s warm, not hot, and limit washing your hair at the same time, as shampoo bubbles are too harsh for facial skin.
2 Tone
This step is often missed but it’ll help to keep your skin really clean as it removes any dirt, grime or impurities that could still be left on your skin after cleansing. Good toners also help to tighten pores, lessening the chance of blackheads forming.
Worried a toner will dry out your skin? You could use a hydrating, balancing facial mist instead. It’s full of humectants (ingredients that retain moisture), such as hyaluronic acid, to rehydrate skin immediately after cleansing. It will also help serums and creams go on more evenly – your skin will love you for this!
3 Apply eye cream
Eye cream goes on first to give it time to sink in – and start working towards smoothing out the fine lines around your eyes. Focus the cream on the areas under and in the corners of your eyes to target established lines and crow’s feet.
4 Layer up with serum
While serums aren’t essential, they’re good for addressing specific skincare concerns and help to add a layer of hydration to parched skin.
Many serums combine a multilayer of active ingredients, but it’s best to switch serums depending on what your skin needs. Also, a little goes a long way. All you need is a thumbnail size amount.
5 Must-have moisture
Moisturizers offer increased protection from the environment in the form of antioxidants, vitamins, peptides, and some plant extracts that work in synergy with skin. But remember, your moisturizer is still just meant to be a “barrier cream", keeping moisture in and daytime pollutants out. Everything else is just a bonus.
At night, should you use a night cream or oil? If you often get blocked pores and your skin is oily, try a plant-based oil that is quickly absorbed, rather than a rich night cream.
6 Add an SPF
While you might love the sun, your skin sure doesn't. In fact UV rays are one of the greatest contributors to skin aging. Use a separate sunscreen (SPF 30) over your daytime moisturizer to get the best layer of protection. If you’re inclined to forget, opt for a multitasking SPF moisturizer instead.
Once a week
Treat your skin to a good exfoliation to smooth and freshen it up. Weekly exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin and can improve its texture and appearance as well as help with other skin concerns such as acne, dryness, and uneven skin tone.
Depending on your skincare needs, a weekly mask treatment is also a good idea as it will help to deep clean, treat dullness or calm inflammation – depending on the mask you choose.

Treat your skin from within
Right, now that you’ve nailed your topical skincare regime, what can you do to really raise the game and see the results you’re after? Think visibly fewer fine lines and wrinkles, a more even skin one and a radiant complexion…
The answer is to treat your skin from within, where it really counts with nutricosmetics that work.
What are nutricosmetics?
Nutricosmetics are a type of dietary supplement that contain ingredients that work together to improve skin health and beauty from the inside out. They’re designed to improve the overall health of your skin, hair and nails by supplying your body with essential nutrients and other compounds that support skin function and structure.
Nutricosmetics typically contain ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, collagen, and other bioactive compounds that have been shown to have beneficial effects on the skin as they protect, heal and rejuvenate cells at the deeper dermal layers of the skin.
